YGR - Ya Gotta Regatta

St. Adalbert's

Coyle Hall has been blessed with the opportunity to give back to the South Bend community by supporting St. Adalbert's Catholic School. Each year, the dorm donates to St. Adalbert's with funds raised from the Regatta, Car Smash, and other events. The Crew also volunteers at St. Adalbert's, helping with various events and activities, including tutoring, mentoring, and playing sports with the kids.

Coyle Formal - Spring

In the spring comes a classic Notre Dame dorm tradition, our formal. Usually co-hosted with a women's dorm, the Coyle Formal is a chance for the dorm to dress up and enjoy our own fancy night. The formal is held on campus and gives guys the opportunity to wear their best suits and ties and have a great time.

Coyle Funk - Fall

An iconic tradition that has been passed down from Fisher, Coyle Funk is our annual '70s themed SYR. Different from many other dorm SYRs (Screw Your Roommate), The Funk is a chance for everyone in Coyle, and their dates, to embrace their inner '70s spirit with groovy fashion, flare pants, disco shirts, and (for those particularly brave) handlebar mustaches and long sideburns. Each year, the dorm gathers in Stepan Center for a night of roller skating, dancing, and good old '70s fun.

Car Smash - Fall

Each fall, Coyle Hall hosts the annual Car Smash as a fundraiser for St. Adalbert's Catholic School. The events invites students, faculty, staff, and anyone on campus to come and leave their mark on an old junk car. Participants can use hammers to smash, dent, and damage the car in any way they see fit, all in the name of charity. Not only is it fun, but it's also a great stress relief and a great way to support a worthy cause!

The Regatta - Spring

The Regatta is known as one of the largest, most successful, and most outrageous signature event on campus. Each spring, Coyle Hall hosts a one-on-one boat-racing tournament on St. Mary’s Lake, and each boat entered must be home-made. Most dorms field at least one boat, and other non-dorm boats, like the ND Concrete Canoe team, compete as well. Past years have seen everything from giant pirate ships to floundering Styrofoam rafts to floating basketball courts. Last year’s regatta saw two new boats for Fisher Hall: a speedy plywood canoe and a giant party-barge. The Regatta draws over a thousand participants and spectators, with food, merch, music, and great vibes all day.

YA GOTTA REGATTA!

Of course, we forgot to mention the infamous Regatta Hawk, a legendary tradition known across campus, where Crew all shave their hair into mohawks to promote dorm unity and the spirit of the Regatta.
